The voice of Saint Paisios of Mount Athos
What a wonderful blessing to be able to hear the voices of contemporary vessels of holiness! ^^
Father George Calciu
I had the blessing to be able to hear Fr. George Calciu speak, preach and even receive a little direct counsel on and off for about 5 years (from 1998 – 2003 or so – the dates could be a little fuzzy here). It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know a man like him. Have been thinking about him lately and found myself praying for his soul – for those who read this please also pray for his soul’s salvation.
Schema-monk Nikodim of Karoulia
The one in whose honor I received my name when I gave my life vows – he reposed in the Lord on Feb 15/28 in 1984. I had the blessing to visit his kellia where he lived in the skete of Karoulia on Mount Athos back in 1999.
Forced Prayer develops hypocrisy….
“Forced prayer develops hypocrisy, renders a man incapable of any occupation requiring meditation and makes him slothful in everything, even in fulfilling his duties. This should persuade all who pray in this manner to correct their mode of praying. We must pray gladly, with energy, from the whole heart. Do not pray to God only when you are obliged to, either in sorrow or in need, for “God loves a cheerful giver.”” From “My Life in Christ”, by St. John of Kronstadt
